Bundledocs New Feature Release - May 2019

It’s that time again. We’re back bringing you everything that’s new in the world of Bundledocs. Here’s what you missed…

Awesome Development Releases

We’ve met with our Development team to bring you the run down on everything that’s new to Bundledocs this month. Remember as a cloud solution you don’t have to worry about installing and upgrading - simply login to your Bundledocs account now and they’re all waiting for you!

  • Who’s Generated This Bundle? It’s now possible to see the name of the user that last generated the bundle. Within the downloads area, you will see a ‘Generated By‘ indicator and simply hover over this to reveal the email address of the user that generated the bundle. This works great when working with collaborators and groups so you can see at-a-glance who produced this bundle last.

  • Reply to Sender. We’ve updated our ‘Forward Bundle‘ feature to allow the recipient to reply directly to the person that shared the bundle with them. Bundledocs will automatically populate the ‘To:’ field with the sender email to make it easier for them to contact you directly.

  • Custom Index Keeps Getting Better. Back in February we announced the introduction of our Custom Index feature that allows you build an index exactly how you like it. (If you missed the announcement then check out our New Feature Release - February 2019) Following on from this we’ve continued to add even more definition parameters so you can customise your index further, including:

    • Re-apply root section number to the display order

    • Apply distinct formatting to late insert document rows

    • Define a prefix and suffix to a root level section

    • Replace a template term when included in a table cell paragraph

What is a Closing Book?

A closing book is used to summarize and organize all relevant documents generated through a transaction. The closing book contains large volumes of documents that are converted into a single PDF file which is fully searchable, indexed and bookmarked. Once completed the closing book can be distributed electronically or in paper format.

A closing book can also be referred to as closing binders, record books, closing transactions, transaction deal bibles, closing bibles… the list goes on. A lot has changed in the world of document production in recent years and there are now tools to help make the process of preparing and delivering closing binders much easier. Using closing book software can enhance customer satisfaction, save hours of work, reduce costly printing and distribution costs - and not to mention, it’s much more environmentally friendly!

  1. CREATE YOUR CLOSING BOOK. First we will need to create our closing binder and create any folders/sub-folders needed.

  2. ADD DOCUMENTS TO YOUR CLOSING BOOK. Once we have created our booklet, the next step will be to add our documents. You can upload files of any time (word documents, PDF, excel, images, emails etc.) and access them regardless of where they’re stored (local C-Drive, Windows Explorer, Dropbox or your DMS iManage, NetDocuments, Actionstep, Worldox).   3. CUSTOMISE YOUR CLOSING BOOK. Once you’ve uploaded your documents you can simply drag and drop to place them in the correct order. Now that everything is in place, we can customise the look and feel of our closing booklet. For example: Add a custom cover page, customize your index/table of contents page, change your page numbering etc. You can even choose what format you want your final book.

  4. DOWNLOAD YOUR CLOSING BOOK OR SECURELY SHARE WITH OTHERS. When you are ready to complete your electronic closing casebook, simply click the Generate button. Your cover page, index page and transaction documents will be merged into a single PDF closing binder. Instantly available and ready to download or share electronically.

What is Redaction?

Before we jump into how to redact court documents, let’s quickly cover what redaction is. The meaning of redaction, according to the Law Dictionary (thelawdictionary.org), is a document that has been modified, edited or revised and any confidential or sensitive information removed from it.

When it comes to redaction you need to be careful that you are not simply masking the text in your document - especially when you’re using electronic documents. True redaction means that the confidential information is completely removed.

How to Redact Court Documents with Bundledocs?


Step One: Upload your documents into Bundledocs

Step Two: Launch the preview window.

Step Three: From the Annotations dropdown, select the ‘Redaction‘ option

Step Four: Select the area of the page you would like to apply the redaction. You can adjust the size and placement to ensure all confidential information is included in the redaction area. Repeat for each piece of information.

Step Five: Now you’ve added all your redactions, you’re ready to generate. Open the Generate window and set your redaction and annotation preferences. Click Generate to complete.
